Things To Do
There is a wealth of pastimes and pursuits all within easy travelling distance of the Hotel.
Cycling.
Cyclists have a wide choice of routes within the area whether forest, country or coastal. Specially laid paths avoid main roads. National Cycle Route 7 passes close to Gatehouse and we are in the heart of the 7stanes country with three of the mountain biking venues within less that 30 minutes drive.
Walkers.
There are many wonderful walks - from the gentle amble to the serious challenge. There are some excellent hill walks as well as woodland and coastal walks. The Southern Upland Way passes nearby.


Golfing.
There is something for everyone - the championship courses of Turnberry, Ayr, Prestwick and Troon are all within easy driving distance but there are also many beautiful 9 and 18 hole courses all within easy reach.
Ancient Sites.
The area is steeped in history and guests have a myriad selection to choose from - whether stone circles and chambered cairns over 4 millennia old, (e.g. Cairnholy), to the arrival of Christianity in Scotland (Whithorn) to the abbeys rich in folklore (Sweetheart Abbey) to the vast choice of ancient castles - Cardoness, Threave, Caerlaverock and Drumlanrig to name a few.

Wildlife Parks - e.g. The Galloway Forest Park which is the largest forest park in Britain and is teeming with wildlife. It includes a red deer range, a wild goat park and red squirrel feeding stations.

Gardens
Warmed by the Gulf Stream there are world famous gardens on the doorstep. Of particular interest are Logan Gardens and Threave Gardens which should not be missed.
